Definition
Qualified Electric Vehicle (QEV): A QEV is a plug-in electric passenger vehicle or light truck that allows the owner to claim a nonrefundable tax credit after purchase. To qualify for the credit, the vehicle must have at least four wheels, be designed for public use, and was not previously utilized for commercial purposes. Additionally, the vehicle must primarily use an electric motor powered by rechargeable batteries or fuel cells and needs to be driven predominantly within the U.S.

Related Terms
- Nonrefundable Tax Credit: A tax deduction that allows taxpayers to reduce their tax liability, but any unsued portion of the credit cannot be refunded.
